ေသခ်င္ရင္ စိန္မစား နဲ ့ ျမန္မာ့ေလေၾကာင္းနဲ ့ ခရီးသြား
ပုံ-မဇၥ်ိမၿမန္မာ ေလေၾကာင္းပိုင္ ဂ်က္ေလယာဥ္ ( XY-ADW)ဟာ စစ္ေတြ ေလယာဥ္ကြင္းသို႔ ဆင္းသက္စဥ္ ေလယာဥ္လမ္းေၾကာင္း ေခ်ာ္သြားသျဖင့္ ေလယဥ္မွဴး တဦးအပါအ၀င္ စုစုေပါင္း ၃ ဦး ဒဏ္ရာ ရရွိသြားသည္။ ေလယာဥ္ ဟာ ခရီးသည္ ၈၀ တင္ေဆာင္လာၿပီး၊ မီတာ ၉၀ က်ယ္၀န္းတဲ့ေၿပးလမ္းေၾကာင္းမွာ ဆင္းသက္ခဲ့စဥ္ လမ္းေခ်ာ္သြားခဲ့ၿခင္းၿဖစ္ပါတယ္။ ေလယာဥ္ဟာ ဒီေန႕နံနက္က ရန္ကုန္မွ ပ်ံသန္းလာျပီး နံနက္ ၈ နာရီ ၃၀ တြင္ စစ္ေတြ ကြင္းသို႔ အဆင္း၌ ယခုကဲ့သို႔ လမ္းေခ်ာ္သြားျခင္း ျဖစ္သည္။ ေလယာဥ္မွဴး ႏွင့္ ခရီးသည္ ၂ဦးကုိ ေဆးရုံသုိ႔ ေခၚေဆာင္သြားၿပီးဒဏ္ရာမ်ားကုိ ကုသေပးေနပါတယ္လုိ႔ သိရွိရပါသည္။

Powerless against The Lady

Signs that the government in Burma is losing its power are everywhere. While the latest collapse of a pagoda recently re-anointed with help from the wives of Army generals may provide a sign of diminishing divine right for the military junta, other important clues come from the reason why a military government armed to the teeth is very afraid of the gentle lady who speaks softly from behind bars as well as barefoot monks who pray peacefully.
Some observers justify military rule in Burma with an assumption that without the Army there will be a power vacuum and chaos will ensue. Aside from the obvious question of whether temporary stability provided by a bloody tyrant is to be preferred over the long term struggle toward a meaningful political reconciliation, the urgent question in Burma is what if the military has already lost its power and legitimacy. What if the Burmese government no longer has the power or capacity to rule without the constant use of violence? Can an Army which clings to power through the barrel of the gun still be considered a legitimate source of power?
The source of legitimacy originates from the people. As the government in Burma has failed to justify its rule in meeting the wishes of the people, the ruling military desperately seeks external sources of legitimacy from sources like the United Nations and ASEAN. The seduction of wealth accrued from Burma too often influences the world to forget lessons learned from the past – for example American support for the Shah of Iran. A belief that through friendly encouragement powerful nations can help the military in Burma liberalize and democratize is not as innocent as it may sound.
Burma is an important reason why ASEAN and the United Nations appear to be weak and irrelevant today. ASEAN often protest that if it dares speak out against the Burmese generals it will push Burma further into the lap of China. At present, ASEAN and the United Nations have not been able to muster enough courage to stand up for principles, preferring to instead cling to the status quo while the Burmese people continue to wait.
Some observers believe that without a decisive military victory against the Burmese generals or intense pressure from international forces, the military will never give up its monopoly on power. But in recent history, few countries have gained democracy from military victories or powerful intervention from abroad despite the many nations that have managed to gain democracy in the last half century.
In addition, few military victors relinquished power after obtaining it in the name of freedom and democracy. And more importantly, historical evidence quashes the myth that only a government with a strong grip on power, even if it relies heavily on violence, is capable of providing stability and development. More recent evidence suggests, on the other hand, that a government formed following a military coup is likely to continually struggle for power and in such an atmosphere peace is only temporary. The use of violence alone to maintain power denotes weakness not strength. A brutal government is a weak government and is dangerous not only to the people in Burma but also to neighboring countries in its potential to cause regional instability.
It is possible that the Burmese military mistakenly believes that the appearance of democracy in the 2010 election is equal to the appearance of legitimacy. But democracy and legitimacy are not the same and should not be confused. True democracy may confer legitimacy but a lack of legitimacy cannot easily be glossed over with a make-believe election.
The use of force is a clear sign of the lack of persuasive power, resulting in ever more coercive measures employed against its own citizens. Ashin U Gambira, the intellectual leader of the Saffron Revolution, is imprisoned under charges of telling the people that the military dictatorship cannot survive without support from the people and outside world. Further, the military is now getting ready to put Aung San Suu Kyi – daughter of the founding father of modern Burma, in notorious Insein Prison following an outrageous accusation that she committed a crime because Army cadres near her home were unable to stop an American man from entering her compound.
Ashin U Gawsita, the frontline Saffron Revolution monk featured with his loudspeaker in the movie ‘Burma VJ’, said that when peaceful people are forced at gunpoint on the street of Rangoon by the government as seen during the 2007 Saffron Revolution, it becomes obvious that the Burmese regime is no longer a legitimate power but a group of terrorists or thugs. Additionally, U Pyinya Zawta, the executive leader of the All Burma Monks Alliance from the Saffron Revolution, said that for every violent force there is an equal force for peace in the universe. He teaches that if all those who believe in peaceful change in Burma -- from inside the country and from other nations -- can act in unison, there will be a strong enough force to end Burma's military oppression.
It is not a question of what China or Russia will do to prolong the military oppression in Burma. It is a question of what the Burmese people and the rest of the world are willing to do to help end the reign of terror in Burma, where the military generals are powerless against The Lady who knows no fear.

တီယန္မင္ အေရးေတာ္ပုံၾကီး ဘယ္လုိ စတင္ခဲ့သလဲ
အမွန္ေတာ့ တီယန္မင္ အေရးေတာ္ပုံၾကီးဟာ ၁၉၈၇ ဒီဇင္ဘာလမွာ တ႐ုတ္ကြန္ျမဴနစ္ပါတီ အေထြေထြ အတြင္းေရးမႉး ဟူေယာင္ဘန္း (Hu Yaobang) ကုိ ပါတီမွ အတင္းအက်ပ္ အနားယူခဲ့ေစျခင္းမွ စတင္ခဲ့တယ္ဆုိရင္ မမွားပါဘူး။

၁၉၀၀ ျပည့္ႏွစ္ခန္႔က New York Journal ကိုလည္း အထက္ေဖာ္ ျပပါကဲ့သို႔ သတင္းမ်ားကို တင္ျပခဲ့သျဖင့္ Yellow journalism ဟူေသာ အသံုးအႏႈန္း ကိုသံုးကာ ေ၀ဖန္တိုက္ခိုက္ခဲ့ၾကသည္။ တစ္ဆက္တည္း အေနႏွင့္ ယေန႔ ေခတ္တြင္လည္း သတင္းက်င့္၀တ္၊ က်င့္ထံုးႏွင့္ မညီေသာ၊ သတင္းစာမ်ား၊ သတင္းသမားမ်ားကို ႏိုင္ငံေရးအရ ဘက္လိုက္ ေရးသား (political bias) ေသာ Yellow newspaper, Yellow news agencies ႏွင့္ Yellow journalist မ်ားအျဖစ္ အျပစ္တင္ကဲ့ရဲမႈမ်ား ႐ွိလာသည္။ မ်ားေသာ အားျဖင့္ Yellow journalism ကို က်င့္သံုးေသာ သတင္းမ်ားသည္ ျဖစ္ရပ္ မ်ားအား လိုသည္ထက္ပိုၿပီး လုပ္ႀကံဖန္တီးေရး သားထားေသာ သတင္းမ်ားသာ ျဖစ္ သည္။

ကိစၥတစ္ရပ္ကို ကိုယ့္သတင္းထဲမွာ ဘက္ႏွစ္ဖက္အျမင္ကို ထည့္ေရးထားတယ္ဆိုရင္ ဒါဟာ မွ်တမႈ႐ွိတယ္ေပါ့။ ကိုယ့္သတင္းက တစ္ဖက္ဖက္ကို ဘက္လိုက္တာမ်ိဳးလည္း မ႐ွိဘူးဆိုရင္ ဒါဟာ ဘက္လိုက္မႈကင္းတယ္လို႔ ဆိုရမယ္ေပါ့။

အစုိးရ၊ ဒါမွ မဟုတ္ ႏိုင္ငံေရးပါတီမ်ားက ပိုင္ဆိုင္ထားတဲ့ သတင္းဌာနမ်ားဟာလည္း မွ်မွ်တတ သတင္းေရးသင့္ၾကပါတယ္။ အဲဒီလိုမွမဟုတ္ရင္ေတာ့ ၀ါဒျဖန္႔ခ်ိေနတာေတြလို႔ဘဲ စာဖတ္ပရိသတ္က ယူဆသြားလိမ့္မယ္။ သတင္းေတြမွာ ယုတ္စြအဆံုး၊ သတင္းရဲ႕ အဆံုးမွာဘဲျဖစ္ျဖစ္ အျမင္ကြဲျပားမႈအေၾကာင္းအရာ တခ်ိဳ႕ကို ရည္ညႊန္းေဖာ္ျပေပးတယ္ဆိုရင္ အဲဒီသတင္းေတြ ဟာ ပိုၿပီးေတာ့ အား႐ွိပါမယ္”
အထက္ေဖာ္ျပပါ စာပုိဒ္ကိုၾကည့္မည္ဆိုလွ်င္ သတင္း႒ာန၊ သတင္းသမား တစ္ေယာက္၏ က်င့္၀တ္ ႏွင့္ သတင္းတစ္ပုဒ္၏ အဂၤါရပ္မ်ားကို ႐ႈျမင္သံုးသပ္ႏိုင္ပါသည္။ သတင္းဖတ္သူမ်ားကလည္း ထိုအခ်က္အလက္မ်ားအေပၚကို အေျခခံကာ ေ၀ဖန္ သံုးသပ္သင့္သည္ဟု ထင္ျမင္မိပါသည္။
Yellow Journalist, Yellow News agencies, Yellow Journal မ်ားမွာ ယေန႔ေခတ္တြင္ ႏိုင္ငံတကာ အပါအ၀င္ ျပည္တြင္းျပည္ပ႐ွိ ဗမာစာနယ္ဇင္းေလာကတြင္လည္း ႐ွိပါသည္။ ယေန႔ေခတ္တြင္ ဖြ႔ံၿဖိဳးတိုးတက္ၿပီး ႏိုင္ငံမ်ားမွ Yellow journalism အသြင္သဏၭာန္ျဖင့္ ထုတ္ေ၀ေနေသာ သတင္းစာ၊ ဂ်ာနယ္မ်ားမွာ ပံုမ်ားေ၀ေ၀ဆာဆာေဖာ္ျပကာ အနီေရာင္ မ်က္ႏွာဖုံုးျဖင့္ ထုတ္ေ၀ေသာ လူႀကိဳက္မ်ားသည့္ British Journal၊ ထူးျခားထင္႐ွားသည့္ The Sun သတင္းစာ၊ ၾသစေတးလ် ႏိုင္ငံထုတ္ The Daily Telegraph ႏွင့္ ဂ်ာမန္ “Springer” သတင္းစာတို႔ ျဖစ္သည္။
ျပည္တြင္းမွ Yellow journalism ကို က်င့္သံုးေသာ စာနယ္ဇင္းမ်ားမွာ တစ္ဖက္သက္ ၀ါဒျဖန္႔ခ်ိေနေသာ စစ္အစိုးရပိုင္ ျမန္မာ့အလင္း၊ ေၾကးမံု ႏွင့္ စစ္အစိုးရ အလိုက်ေရးသားေပးေနေသာ ဂ်ာနယ္မ်ားအားလံုး ျဖစ္ၿပီး၊ ျပည္ပတြင္မူ ရည္ရြယ္ခ်က္တူေသာ္လည္း မူ၀ါဒမတူညီ႐ံုျဖင့္ အခ်င္းခ်င္း ပုဂၢိဳလ္ေရးအရ ေစာ္ကားတိုက္ခုိက္ေနေသာ သတင္း႒ာနမ်ား၊ မိမိ၀ိတ္ (အင္အား) ႏွင့္ အ႐ွိန္အ၀ွာကိုသံုး၍ တစ္ဖက္သား နစ္နာေစရန္ ေ၀ဖန္တုိက္ခုိက္သည့္ သတင္း႒ာနမ်ား၊ စစ္အစိုးရ အား တိုက္ခိုက္ရလွ်င္ၿပီးေရာသေဘာျဖင့္ ကိုယ့္စိတ္ခံစားခ်က္ကို အသားေပး၊ ေဇာင္းတင္ၿပီး ေရးသည့္ သတင္း႒ာနမ်ား ပင္ျဖစ္သည္။ ထိုသတင္း႒ာနမ်ားက အဆိုပါကဲ့သို႔ သတင္းမ်ားအား ေရးသား ေၾကျငာခဲ့သည္႐ွိေသာ္ ထုိသတင္းမ်ားမွာ အ၀ါေရာင္ သတင္းမ်ား (Yellow news) သာျဖစ္သည္။
ထိုကဲ့သို႔ ေရးသားလိုက္၍ မုန္းၾကမည္ဆိုလွ်င္လည္း အၿပံဳးမပ်က္၊ အမုန္းခံပါမည္။ အျပဳသေဘာျဖင့္ ေ၀ဖန္သည္သာျဖစ္ပါ သည္။ ငယ္စဥ္က က်ေနာ့္ အဂၤလိပ္စာ ဆရာေျပာခဲ့ဖူးေသာ စကားတစ္ခြန္းကို ျပန္လည္ မွ်ေ၀ခ်င္ပါသည္။ တစ္ရက္တြင္ ဆရာက ထပ္ကာထပ္ကာ အေသအခ်ာမွာပါလွ်က္ႏွင့္ အက္ေဆးတစ္ပုဒ္တြင္ ႐ွစ္တန္းေက်ာင္းသားတစ္ေယာက္ မမွားသင့္ သည့္ အမွားမ်ိဳးကို မွားၾကသျဖင့္ အတန္းထဲတြင္ အဆူခံၾကရပါသည္။ ဆရာက “ေအး….ဘယ္သူေတြမွားတယ္ဆိုတာေတာ့ နာမည္ တပ္ၿပီးေျပာမေနေတာ့ဘူး။ ငါမမွားဘဲ နဲ႔ ငါ့ကိုေျပာေနတာမ်ားလား မသိဘူးဆိုၿပီးလည္း မွန္တဲ့သူေတြက မလံုမလဲ ျဖစ္မေနၾကနဲ႔။ မွားတဲ့ အထဲမွာ ငါ ပါေနရင္ ငါ့ကိုေျပာတယ္လို႔မွတ္” ဟု ဆရာ ေျပာခဲ့သည္ကို ျပန္ၿပီး သတိရေနပါသည္။
က်ေနာ္ ကိုယ္တိုင္လည္း သတင္းေထာက္စစ္စစ္ တစ္ေယာက္ေတာ့ မဟုတ္ပါ။ သို႔ေသာ္ မိမိကိုယ္တိုင္သည္ သတင္း ရင္းျမစ္မ်ားမ်ား ရႏိုင္သည့္ေနရာတြင္ ႐ွိေနျခင္း၊ သတင္းေထာက္ တစ္ေယာက္ျဖစ္ရန္ စိတ္ကူးမထားေသာ္လည္း မိမိသိ႐ွိ ေနသည့္ သတင္းမ်ားကို မိမိသိ႐ွိလိုက္ေသာ အခ်ိန္ႏွင့္တစ္ေျပးညီ အမ်ားအားသိ႐ွိေစလိုေသာ ဆႏၵျဖင့္ ျပန္လည္မွ်ေ၀ လိုေသာ ဆႏၵ႐ွိျခင္း၊ စာေရးရသည္ကိုလည္း ၀ါသနာပါျခင္း စသည့္အေျခအေနမ်ားေၾကာင့္ သတင္းမ်ားကို ေရးသားျဖစ္ ပါသည္။ သို႔ေသာ္ သတင္းေထာက္ တစ္ေယာက္ မဟုတ္သည့္တိုင္၊ သတင္းမ်ားကို အခမဲ့ျဖန္႔ေ၀ေပးေနသည့္ volunteer သတင္းသမား ဟုေျပာလို႔ရႏိုင္သည့္ စာရင္း ထဲတြင္ထည့္လွ်င္ေတာ့ ရခ်င္ရမည္။ ထို႔ေၾကာင့္ သတင္းေရးနည္းစာအုပ္မ်ား၊ ဘာသာျပန္ သတင္းသမားမ်ားလက္စြဲ စာအုပ္မ်ား စသည့္ ကိုယ္ႏွင့္ လက္လွမ္းမီရာ စာအုပ္မ်ားကိုေတာ့ ဖတ္ျဖစ္ပါသည္။
စစ္အစိုးရႏွင့္ အတိုက္အခံ စာနယ္ဇင္းမ်ား ဆိုသည္မွာလည္း တစ္နည္းအားျဖင့္ေတာ့ ဗမာျပည္ဒီမိုကေရစီအေရးအတြက္ တစ္စိတ္တစ္ပိုင္းမွ ပါ၀င္ေနသည္ဟုဆိုလွ်င္လည္းမမွားပါ။ အားလံုးက နည္းအမ်ိဳးမ်ိဳး ႏွင့္ ပါ၀င္တိုက္ပြဲ၀င္ေနၾကသည္သာ ျဖစ္သည္။ တိုက္ပြဲတြင္အဓိက အက်ဆံုးမွာ ျပည္တြင္း႐ွိ အတိုက္အခံအဖြဲ႔အစည္းမ်ား ႏွင့္ ျပည္သူလူထုသာ ျဖစ္ပါသည္။ ထိုသူမ်ား၏ လႈပ္႐ွားေဆာင္ရြက္မႈမ်ားကို ျပည္ပ႐ွိ အတိုက္အခံသတင္း႒ာနမ်ား၊ ဘေလာ့ဂါမ်ား ႏွင့္ အျခားတစ္နည္းနည္း ျဖင့္ သတင္းျဖန္႔ေ၀ေပးေနသူမ်ားက ျပည္တြင္းျဖစ္စဥ္မ်ားကို ျပည္တြင္းျပည္ပ႐ွိ ျမန္မာျပည္သူလူထု အပါအ၀င္၊ ႏိုင္ငံတကာ က ျမန္မာ့အေရးကို သိ႐ွိၿပီး၊ ပူေပါင္းေဆာင္ရြက္လာေစရန္ လုပ္ေပးေနၾကသည္ ျဖစ္သည္။ သို႔ေသာ္ ထိုသို႔လုပ္ရင္းႏွင့္ပင္ အခ်ိဳ႕သတင္းမ်ားမွာ အ၀ါေရာင္အဆင့္သို႔ ေရာက္ေရာက္သြားတတ္ၾကသည္။
က်ေနာ္ မွတ္မိေနေသးသည့္ အ၀ါေရာင္ သတင္းမ်ားကို ျပန္လည္တင္ျပရမည္ဆိုလွ်င္ ၂၀၀၇ ခုႏွစ္စက္တင္ဘာ အေရး အခင္းကာလက ကုန္ေစ်းႏႈန္းက်ဆင္းေရး ဆႏၵျပသူ ကိုထင္ေက်ာ္ ႏွင့္ သတင္း႒ာနတစ္ခုက ဆက္သြယ္ေမး ျမန္းထားေသာ သတင္းတစ္ပုဒ္ (ထိုသတင္းတင္ျပၿပီးေနာက္ ရက္အနည္းငယ္တြင္ ကိုထင္ေက်ာ္ အဖမ္းခံခဲ့ရသည္)၊ ႐ိုဟင္ဂ်ာ ကိစၥတြင္ လူအခြင့္အေရး႐ႈေထာင့္မွ တင္ျပၿပီး၊ စစ္အစိုးရကိုလည္း တိုက္ရင္း၊ ႐ိုဟင္ဂ်ာမ်ားဘက္ကိုလည္း ေဇာင္းေပးေရးသားရင္း၊ တိုင္းရင္းသား တစ္စုအား လူမ်ိဳးေရးအရ ထိခိုက္ေစာ္ကားသလို ျဖစ္သြားေစသည့္ သတင္းတစ္ပုဒ္၊ ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္ တရားစြဲခံရေသာကိစၥ ႏွင့္ ပက္သက္၍ သတင္း႒ာန အခ်ိဳ႕က သတင္း၀က္ဘ္ဆိုဒ္တစ္ခုအား ပုဂၢိဳလ္ေရးအရ စြပ္စြဲတုိက္ ခိုက္ခဲ့ေသာ သတင္း၊ ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္အား ကူညီေစာင့္ေ႐ွာက္ေပးေနသူ ေဒၚခင္ခင္၀င္းႏွင့္ သမီးျဖစ္သူ မ၀င္းမမ တို႔အား အေစခံဟု သံုးစြဲၿပီး ထိုသူတို႔အား ထိခိုက္နစ္နာေစခဲ့ေသာသတင္းမ်ား စသည္တို႔ျဖစ္သည္။ ေနာက္တစ္ခု က်န္ပါေသးသည္။ ေဒၚေအာင္ဆန္းစုၾကည္က ဗိုလ္ခ်ဳပ္ သန္းေရႊအား စာေရးသည့္ပံုစံျဖင့္ ေရးထားေသာစာကို သတင္း႒ာန တစ္ခုက ေဖာ္ျပေပးေသာ သေရာ္စာျဖစ္သည္။ ထိုသေရာ္စာမွာ သာမန္အေျခအေနတြင္ ဆိုလွ်င္ ဖတ္၍ေကာင္းပါမည္။ သေရာ္သည္၊ ေနာက္သည္၊ ေျပာင္သည္ဆိုသည္မွာ အေျခအေနႏွင့္ အခ်ိန္အခါကို ၾကည့္ရပါသည္။ ထိုသေရာ္စာကို ဖတ္ရသည္မွာ အသုဘအိမ္တြင္သြားၿပီး ျပက္လံုးထုတ္ေနသည္ႏွင့္ တူပါသည္။ ယခုေတာ့ အဆိုပါ သတင္းမ်ား၊ သေရာ္စာမ်ားသည္ စစ္အစိုးရကို မဟုတ္ဘဲ အေရးခံရေသာ ကာယကံ႐ွင္မ်ားကို ထိခိုက္နစ္ နာေစခဲ့ေသာ သတင္းမ်ားျဖစ္သျဖင့္ အ၀ါေရာင္အဆင့္႐ွိ သတင္း (Yellow news) မ်ား ျဖစ္သည္။ ထိုသတင္းမ်ားေၾကာင့္ ျမန္မာ့အေရးကို ျပည္ပသတင္း႒ာန မ်ားအား အားကိုးၿပီး ဖတ္႐ႈေနၾကရေသာ ျပည္ပမွ ျမန္မာမ်ားအၾကား ထိုသတင္းမ်ား တင္ျပခဲ့သည့္ သတင္း႒ာနမ်ား အေပၚ ျပစ္တင္ေ၀ဖန္မႈမ်ား ထြက္ေပၚခဲ့သည္။ ပရိသတ္ထံမွ “မ်က္ႏွာမရ၊ လက္၀ါးရ” ဟူ ေသာ စကား အတိုင္း ျဖစ္ခဲ့သည္။
By extension the term is used today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion, such as systematic political bias. Yellow Journalism can also be the practice of over-dramatizing events.
ယခုေခတ္တြင္ သတင္း ႏွင့္ နည္းပညာ က႑သည္ အ႐ွိန္အဟုန္ျဖင့္ တိုးတက္လာသည္မွ်၊ ျပည္သူလူထု၏ အသိပညာ၊ ဗဟုသုတသည္လည္း တိုးတက္လာကာ မ်က္စိပြင့္၊ နားပြင့္ ႐ွိေနၾကၿပီျဖစ္သည္။ ျပည္တြင္းျပည္ပမွ ျမန္မာျပည္သူလူထုသည္ သတင္း ႏွင့္ နည္းပညာေက်းဇူးေၾကာင့္ စစ္အစိုးရအတုိက္အခံ သတင္း႒ာနမ်ားမွ တင္ျပေသာ သတင္းမ်ားကိုပါ စိတ္၀င္တစား ဖတ္႐ႈႏိုင္ၾကၿပီျဖစ္သည္။ ႏွစ္ေပါင္းမ်ားစြာတိုင္ စစ္အစိုးရ၏ တစ္ဘက္ေစာင္းနင္းေရးသားေသာ ၀ါဒျဖန္႔ခ်ိေရး သတင္းမ်ားကိုသာ ဖတ္႐ႈခဲ့ၾက၊ ယံုစားမိခဲ့ၾကသည့္အတြက္ ဒုကၡေရာက္ခဲ့ၾကသည္ကိုလည္း ျပည္သူလူထုက ေကာင္းေကာင္း သိျမင္နားလည္ေနၾကၿပီ။ ထို႔ေၾကာင့္ ျပည္သူလူထုအေနျဖင့္ သတင္းတစ္ပုဒ္သည္၊ ဟုတ္၏၊ မဟုတ္၏၊ မွန္၏၊ မမွန္၏၊ ခိုင္လံုမႈ႐ွိ၏၊ မ႐ွိ၏ စသည္ကိုလည္း ေကာင္းစြာ႐ႈျမင္သံုးသပ္ႏိုင္ၾကေသာ ကာလသို႔ေရာက္ေနၿပီဆိုသည္ကို က်ေနာ္ အပါအ၀င္ သတင္းေရးသူမ်ားအားလံုး သိ႐ွိၾကရန္လိုအပ္ပါသည္။ သတင္းတစ္ပုဒ္သည္ မွ်တမႈ (Balance and fairness) ႏွင့္ ဓမၼဓိ႒ာန္က်မႈ (Objectivity) ႐ွိရန္လိုအပ္ေပသည္။ ကိုယ္သည္ နာမည္ႀကီး ဘေလာ့ဂါ တစ္ေယာက္ (သို႔မဟုတ္) သတင္းေထာက္ တစ္ေယာက္ျဖစ္၍ (သို႔မဟုတ္) ကိုယ့္သတင္း႒ာနသည္ နာမည္ႀကီး သတင္း႒ာန တစ္ခုျဖစ္၍ ကိုယ္ေရး သမွ် သတင္းတိုင္းကို ျပည္သူမ်ား အၿမဲစိတ္၀င္ စားေနမည္ဟု ပံုေသမမွတ္ယူသင့္ပါ။ ျပည္သူအားကိုးရေသာ သတင္းသမား (သို႔) သတင္းေထာက္တစ္ေယာက္၊ ျပည္သူအားထားရေသာ သတင္း႒ာန တစ္ခုျဖစ္ရန္ လိုပါသည္။
မည္သူမွ မၿမဲတမ္းမမွားၾကသလို၊ အၿမဲတမ္းလည္း မမွန္ႏိုင္ပါ။ တစ္ခါတရံ သတင္းသမားတစ္ေယာက္ အေနႏွင့္ သတင္းရင္း ျမစ္ေနာက္သို႔ သဲႀကီးမဲႀကီးလိုက္ရင္း မိမိ၏ သတင္းရင္းျမစ္မွာ မိမိေၾကာင့္ ဓားစာခံျဖစ္သြား တတ္သည္။ မိမိသည္ ထိုသတင္း အား တင္ျပႏိုင္လွ်င္ အက်ိဳးအျမတ္ မည္ေရႊ႕မည္မွ် ရလိမ့္မည္ ျဖစ္လင့္ကစား ထိုသတင္း ေၾကာင့္ တစ္ဖက္သား နစ္နာသြား မည္ဆိုလွ်င္ ေရးဖို႔ကို အေတာ္ကို ခ်င့္ခ်ိန္ၿပီး စဥ္းစားရပါမည္။ ထိုအခ်က္ႏွင့္ ပက္သက္ၿပီး IMMF မွ Peter Eng ႏွင့္ Jeff Hosdon တို႔က စာမ်က္ႏွာ ၁၄၄ တြင္ တင္ျပထားသည္မွာ “ကိုယ့္သတင္းရင္းျမစ္ကိုေလးစားပါ - ကိုယ္က ျပည္သူလူထု အေပၚမွာသာ တာ၀န္႐ွိတာ မဟုတ္ပါဘူး။ ကိုယ့္သတင္းရင္းျမစ္ေတြေပၚမွာလည္း တာ၀န္႐ွိပါတယ္။ ဥပမာ - သတင္းရင္းျမစ္ တစ္ေယာက္က အေျခအေနတစ္ရပ္နဲ႔ ပက္သက္ၿပီး အသိမခံတဲ့ သတင္းတစ္ခုေပးတယ္ဆိုရင္ ကိုယ္က သူ႔နာမည္ကို မေဖာ္ ပါဘူးဆိုတဲ့ ကတိတည္ရပါမယ္။ အဲဒီသတင္းရင္းျမစ္ရဲ႕ နာမည္ကို ကိုယ့္သတင္းထဲမွာ ေသာ္လည္းေကာင္း၊ အျခား တစ္နည္းနည္းနဲ႔ ေသာ္လည္းေကာင္း ေဖာ္ျပတာမ်ိဳး မလုပ္ရပါဘူး။ ေဖာ္ျပမိတယ္ဆိုရင္ အဲဒီ လူရဲ႕ ဘ၀မွာ၊ ဒါမွဟုတ္ အလုပ္မွာ ထိခိုက္နစ္နာတာမ်ိဳးေတြ ျဖစ္တတ္႐ံုမက တစ္ခါတေလမွာ အသက္အႏၱရာယ္ ျဖစ္တာမ်ိဳး အထိေတာင္ ႐ွိႏိုင္ပါ တယ္” ဟု ေဖာ္ျပထားသည္။

Basic Outing Rules: 2009 Burma Open Golf Outing
1) Play the white tee
2) You must putt out every hole (You must play the ball into the hole before starting the next hole)
3) Must turn in a score card of your group
4) The ball must be on the first green for being closet to the pin.
5) The longest drive must be within the designated fairway.
6) Can switch to a different brand of golf ball on every hole on the course – But the change must be made between the play of holes. (One ball per hole)
7) You must play the ball as it lies. You can not move it to a better spot.
8) Always mark your ball by putting a small coin or other marker behind it when you want to pick it up to clean or get it out of another player's way.
9) A ball is lost if it is not found within five minutes after you first begin to search.
10) When you drop a ball, stand erect, hold your arm out straight and drop it.
11) If you think your ball may be lost or out of bounds, you may play another ball (provisional ball) from the place where your first ball was played. You must tell your opponent or fellow-competitor that you are playing a provisional ball and play it before you look for the first ball.
12) Drop the ball within one club-length of that point.

From decadence to discounts
FIVE years ago Michael Silverstein and Neil Fiske wrote a book, “Trading Up: The New American Luxury”. They argued that Americans, even those of modest means, were abandoning merely adequate products for luxurious ones. Jake the construction worker, for example, splurged $3,000 on Callaway golf clubs, though he could have bought a set nearly as good for a third as much. (“They make me feel rich,” he said.) A shipping clerk on $25,000 a year bought silk pyjamas from Victoria’s Secret. A couple making $125,000 ordered a $4,000 brand-name cooking range, even though their kitchen came with a free generic one. If you read the book backwards, it describes what is going on today.
Americans are trading down. If they still have jobs (as 91% of the workforce do), they are worried about losing them. Their homes are no longer cash machines and their investments are in a ditch. Household net worth fell by a staggering $11.2 trillion last year. The rich are cancelling orders for yachts. Working Americans are forgoing even small luxuries. Lindt & Sprüngli, a maker of exquisite chocolate truffles, is closing 50 of its 80 stores in America. Hershey’s, a maker of less chocolatey chocolate, is doing rather well. Limited Brands, which owns Victoria’s Secret, is not.
Americans are rediscovering thrift. Retail sales fell by 11% from their peak in late 2007 to April 2009. Personal consumption has fallen 2.5% since last summer. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a consultancy, finds that nearly three-quarters of Americans plan to curb their spending over the next year.
Trading down is not difficult. Instead of, say, blowing $4.50 on a Strawberries and Crème Venti Frappuccino from Starbucks, Americans are popping into Dunkin’ Donuts for a basic cuppa Joe at a buck or so. Instead of shopping at Neiman Marcus (a posh department store known colloquially as “Needless Mark-up”), they are driving to the out-of-town Wal-Mart superstore or shopping online for bargains at Amazon (see chart 2). A recent Pew poll found that 21% of Americans planned to grow their own vegetables, 16% had held a garage sale or sold things online and 10% had either taken in a friend or relative or moved in with one. Pundits are coining phrases such as “austerity chic” and “luxury shame”.
Four-fifths of Americans told the BCG they would defer big purchases that can wait. The most obvious example is a car. After a home, this is the most expensive object a typical family buys. New cars are nice, but old ones can last a long time, as any third-world taxi-driver knows. So Americans are keeping their old wheels on the road. Repair shops are bustling. Desperate dealers are offering interest-free finance. Hyundai, a maker of unflashy cars, has lifted its share of the American market by saying: buy a car from us, and if you lose your job we’ll buy it back.
The beneficiaries of the new parsimony are, unsurprisingly, firms that offer low prices. The only two stocks on the Dow Jones Industrial Average that rose in 2008 were Wal-Mart and McDonald’s. Wal-Mart, with its hyperefficient supply chain, is so good at squeezing costs that it has a measurable effect on the national inflation rate. McDonald’s is enticing cash-strapped diners with meals for as little as $1.
Americans who still eat out are doing so at cheaper restaurants. Russ Klein, a senior executive at Burger King, another fast-food chain, reckons that on balance the recession has helped his firm. High unemployment hurts breakfast sales, because jobless people have less cause to get out of bed. But overall, cash-strapped consumers are buying more burgers in paper bags and fewer steaks served on white linen.

The competition among the fast-food chains is exuberantly vicious. Burger King produces edgy advertisements in the hope that people will pass them around online. Earlier this year it offered users of Facebook, a social-networking website, a free Whopper burger if they would dump ten of their online friends. Facebook soon shut down the promotion, but not before Burger King was able to claim that the public’s love of its flame-grilled product was “stronger than 233,906 friendships”.
Another way Americans are saving money is by staying at home, so firms that offer a distraction from the horrors of family life are doing well. Netflix, which lets couch potatoes order films from a huge library for as little as $4.99 a month, said in April that it had shipped its 2 billionth DVD. Amazon, an online bookseller that has expanded into music, video games, hiking equipment and even sex toys, boosted profits by 24% in the first quarter.
Of course, if you are going to spend a lot of time at home, you need to be able to defend it. Gun sales are unusually brisk: FBI background checks in the three months from November 2008 were up by 31% on the previous year. Some Americans are stocking up in anticipation of tighter gun laws under Mr Obama. Others fear that the newly jobless will turn criminal. Neither fear is likely to prove founded, but gun stores are still running out of ammunition.
The big squeeze

Some industries will have to shrink dramatically to survive. Car-parts suppliers, for example, are in dire straits, despite a promise of $5 billion in emergency loans from the government. TI Automotive, which makes fuel tanks, has laid off a quarter of its white-collar staff in North America in the past year. Managers’ salaries have been slashed. Blue-collar workers’ hourly pay has been frozen and their hours cut by half. The firm is delaying paying its own suppliers unless they can deliver exactly what it wants, when it wants it.
Yet all this belt-tightening will not be enough. Car-parts suppliers must consolidate, says William Kozyra, TI’s president. There are typically six to eight of them for each part. To achieve the necessary economies of scale, that must shrink to two or three, he reckons. Unfortunately, suppliers would need to borrow money to finance mergers or acquisitions, and no one will lend right now to an industry whose future is in such doubt.

Most of America’s non-financial firms did not go mad in the credit boom. In fact, since the dotcom and telecoms busts earlier this decade, many have put their balance-sheets in order. While households and financial firms went on a borrowing binge, non-financial firms stayed fairly sober. Household debt leapt from 71% of GDP at the beginning of 2001 to 97% in late 2008. Financial-sector debt vaulted from 85% to 121%. But non-financial firms’ debt rose only from 66% to 78%.
Despite massive injections of taxpayers’ cash to restore lenders’ balance-sheets, it will be a while before the credit crunch ends. Between 2000 and 2007 the average American increased his personal consumption by 44%. This accounted for 77% of America’s economic growth during that period. Much of it was financed by debt. In five years, American households extracted $2.3 trillion of equity from their homes. They blew 20% of this on consumption, 19% on sprucing up their homes and 44% on assets such as stocks.

In good times property management is seen as a fixed cost, says Mark Friedman, Accruent’s chief executive. But now firms are looking for ways to trim their bills. Accruent helps them build more rationally, find cheaper leases and fend off landlords who try to overcharge for extras. The recession creates new problems: leases don’t expire just because you lay people off. Accruent helps firms shuffle employees around to create an empty building that can then be sold or sublet.
So its services are in demand. But the sheer unpredictability of the economy still makes Mr Friedman nervous. Quite often, he opens the Wall Street Journal and finds that something bad has happened to a firm he thought he was about to do business with. “It feels like we’re driving at 100mph in a fog,” he says.
On the plus side, many of the efficiencies discovered through necessity during the downturn will outlast it. For example, firms are cutting business travel by videoconferencing. Mr Sorenson of Marriott plays down the threat, arguing that there is no substitute for meeting people face-to-face. Others are not so sure. Videoconferencing technology keeps improving. Some meetings are necessary, but others are a waste of time. Mr Kozyra of TI Automotive predicts that, when the good times return, “we’ll go halfway back” to travelling, and maybe send two executives to meet customers instead of six.

From decadence to discounts
FIVE years ago Michael Silverstein and Neil Fiske wrote a book, “Trading Up: The New American Luxury”. They argued that Americans, even those of modest means, were abandoning merely adequate products for luxurious ones. Jake the construction worker, for example, splurged $3,000 on Callaway golf clubs, though he could have bought a set nearly as good for a third as much. (“They make me feel rich,” he said.) A shipping clerk on $25,000 a year bought silk pyjamas from Victoria’s Secret. A couple making $125,000 ordered a $4,000 brand-name cooking range, even though their kitchen came with a free generic one. If you read the book backwards, it describes what is going on today.
Americans are trading down. If they still have jobs (as 91% of the workforce do), they are worried about losing them. Their homes are no longer cash machines and their investments are in a ditch. Household net worth fell by a staggering $11.2 trillion last year. The rich are cancelling orders for yachts. Working Americans are forgoing even small luxuries. Lindt & Sprüngli, a maker of exquisite chocolate truffles, is closing 50 of its 80 stores in America. Hershey’s, a maker of less chocolatey chocolate, is doing rather well. Limited Brands, which owns Victoria’s Secret, is not.
Americans are rediscovering thrift. Retail sales fell by 11% from their peak in late 2007 to April 2009. Personal consumption has fallen 2.5% since last summer. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a consultancy, finds that nearly three-quarters of Americans plan to curb their spending over the next year.
Trading down is not difficult. Instead of, say, blowing $4.50 on a Strawberries and Crème Venti Frappuccino from Starbucks, Americans are popping into Dunkin’ Donuts for a basic cuppa Joe at a buck or so. Instead of shopping at Neiman Marcus (a posh department store known colloquially as “Needless Mark-up”), they are driving to the out-of-town Wal-Mart superstore or shopping online for bargains at Amazon (see chart 2). A recent Pew poll found that 21% of Americans planned to grow their own vegetables, 16% had held a garage sale or sold things online and 10% had either taken in a friend or relative or moved in with one. Pundits are coining phrases such as “austerity chic” and “luxury shame”.
Four-fifths of Americans told the BCG they would defer big purchases that can wait. The most obvious example is a car. After a home, this is the most expensive object a typical family buys. New cars are nice, but old ones can last a long time, as any third-world taxi-driver knows. So Americans are keeping their old wheels on the road. Repair shops are bustling. Desperate dealers are offering interest-free finance. Hyundai, a maker of unflashy cars, has lifted its share of the American market by saying: buy a car from us, and if you lose your job we’ll buy it back.
The beneficiaries of the new parsimony are, unsurprisingly, firms that offer low prices. The only two stocks on the Dow Jones Industrial Average that rose in 2008 were Wal-Mart and McDonald’s. Wal-Mart, with its hyperefficient supply chain, is so good at squeezing costs that it has a measurable effect on the national inflation rate. McDonald’s is enticing cash-strapped diners with meals for as little as $1.
Americans who still eat out are doing so at cheaper restaurants. Russ Klein, a senior executive at Burger King, another fast-food chain, reckons that on balance the recession has helped his firm. High unemployment hurts breakfast sales, because jobless people have less cause to get out of bed. But overall, cash-strapped consumers are buying more burgers in paper bags and fewer steaks served on white linen.

The competition among the fast-food chains is exuberantly vicious. Burger King produces edgy advertisements in the hope that people will pass them around online. Earlier this year it offered users of Facebook, a social-networking website, a free Whopper burger if they would dump ten of their online friends. Facebook soon shut down the promotion, but not before Burger King was able to claim that the public’s love of its flame-grilled product was “stronger than 233,906 friendships”.
Another way Americans are saving money is by staying at home, so firms that offer a distraction from the horrors of family life are doing well. Netflix, which lets couch potatoes order films from a huge library for as little as $4.99 a month, said in April that it had shipped its 2 billionth DVD. Amazon, an online bookseller that has expanded into music, video games, hiking equipment and even sex toys, boosted profits by 24% in the first quarter.
Of course, if you are going to spend a lot of time at home, you need to be able to defend it. Gun sales are unusually brisk: FBI background checks in the three months from November 2008 were up by 31% on the previous year. Some Americans are stocking up in anticipation of tighter gun laws under Mr Obama. Others fear that the newly jobless will turn criminal. Neither fear is likely to prove founded, but gun stores are still running out of ammunition.
